| Building a Foundation for Hope in Rural Uganda |

The Arlington Academy of Hope (AAH) is dedicated to building a foundation for hope in rural Uganda by providing access to quality education and basic healthcare for children in one of the world's poorest countries. Our primary school in Bumwalukani village enrolls more than 300 students in seven grades providing dedicated teachers, individual attention and a supportive learning atmosphere. In three years, it has become the model school for villages in eastern Uganda. Our clinic built in 2006 provides immunizations and basic healthcare to students, their families and the local community. More than 6,000 patients have been cared for since May 2006. Our secondary education program launched in 2007 provides scholarships to AAH and select local students helping them continue their education and reach for their dreams. In February 2008, AAH opened a second medical clinic stretching its reach to Bupoto and providing healthcare to thouands of villagers in an area desperate for basic services.

| Congratulations AAH P7 Students! |
|
For three years running, AAH students have made our model primary school the top performer of the 95 schools in Bududa district. In 2006, the first class to graduate from AAH exceeded our highest hopes with their scores on Uganda's national Primary Leaving Exams. In 2007 and 2008, AAH students continued to perform at the highest levels of the required national exam. The chart to the right shows that in a district where sadly more than one-third failed the exam, nearly 100% of AAH students passed at the highest levels.
By setting new standards and expanding our outreach through teacher training and shared resources, AAH hopes to lift student performance in local village schools.
AAH began five years ago, because all of the schools in and around Bumwalukani village were doing so poorly. Students weren’t learning and none were going on to top level secondary schools. AAH was built to be a model school that would lift educational standards in rural areas and inspire action. The AAH P-7 graduating students have proven that when given the opportunity through great teachers, smaller class sizes, individual attention and a great atmosphere, they can and will succeed.
Needless to say, everyone in the AAH community is euphoric. The AAH board of directors in the U.S. has set up a scholarship fund to support the students as they go on to the next step in their education. Learn more about the AAH Secondary Scholarship Program. Your support through a donation to our Wamundu Fund for the Future is welcome and needed.
AAH continues to grow with the help of a loving and caring donor group that includes child sponsors, dedicated volunteers in the U.S. and in Uganda, generous donors and many wonderful friends and well-wishers. This success is not only for the students of AAH, it is for everyone who believes in the AAH vision and helps to make it possible. Thank you all for working with us to make the vision of a better education and a better future possible for children in Uganda.

AAH is in the Combined Federal Campaign! The AAH CFC number is 11640. If you're in the military or a federal employee, please remember AAH during each CFC season. Your support makes a tremendous difference.
Charities that apply to receive funds through the CFC are required to submit to extensive review of their financial and governance practices prior to acceptance. This eligibility review has helped set standards for participation in giving initiatives that transcend the community.
We are excited to be a part of Aid for Africa, a unique partnership of select charities dedicated to helping children, families, and communities throughout Africa. Aid for Africa facilitates our participation in the CFC. |

April 13, 2005 Letter from American Teacher Cynthia Margeson - 16-May-2005
"The main message from here is this: Things are operating and doing well here in Bumwalukani, but there are still many things that we continue to need. The generosity of so many people in America has made it possible this far, and those contributors should be very proud of what has been started, and how their money has been used. The official motto of the school is Education for Transformation, but Holly sent us a banner which is frequently quoted as well, and that is Our School is Committed to Excellence, and every single student here is working toward that."

American Teacher Reports on Her Tenure as Headmaster at AAH Bumwalukani - 28-Mar-2005
In early March, Cynthia Margeson submitted a report addressing the progress of AAH Bumwalukani and talking about recent events in Uganda. She ended her remarks by commenting: "Having been here for just one short month, my commitment to this project is even more resolved. Every bit of the support from the U.S. makes an impact in various ways on individual children, whole families and the community at large. The project is highly
organized at levels in the US, Kampala and here in the village. I only wish that every one who has shown interest in the Arlington Academy of Hope could see: the glimmer in students’ eyes, the shy wave or greeting to the American teachers, the incredible commitment and dedication of the staff, (many of whom have left families in other parts of Uganda in order to be part of this trend setting school). This will be a blue ribbon school in every aspect and with continued support, this is the school that others will hear about. Others will compare themselves and try to model their own school after the high expectations of Arlington Academy of Hope."

U.S. Group Incorporates: Arlington Academy of Hope, Inc. - 1-Feb-2005
The time had come for our grassroots effort to be a little more institutionalized. We are proud to announce that as of December 28, 2004, Arlington Academy of Hope, Inc., is a corporation registered in the Commonwealth of Virginia. This is an incredibly exciting development, especially when one considers everything that the existing network of American donors has accomplished.
